This evening's NBC news talked about the president's plan to reward women for having babies. That sounds familiar. He plans on giving a medal to those who have 6 or more children. That also sounds familiar. There's a lot of stuff that sounds 1936 familiar. I shan't say more!
hi ian...sorry if you thought my newhart imitation was 'hateful'...i was thinking of it more like a 'wakeup' call - like what a parent might offer as a caution

Hi Noel,
It wasn't o much the Newhart thing - just the developing trend towards hate rather than the basis of Christianity, which you captured so well all those years ago in Wedding Song.
I guess all the hate of the election period seems to me to be such a waste of energy, when that energy could have been directed towards developing an alternative rather than attacking the incumbent.
As I tried to say a few times, it's hard from this distance to understand that in a country the size of yours there was not a better alternative.
Again from this distance, it's also hard to believe that Harris could have been a serious contender, but all the focus of the campaign seemed to be to attack Trump, suggesting everyone realised that she had nothing to bring to the table.
I have no objection to satire - most comedy relies on finding something in society and changing it to become something humorous. That's normal!
But over the recent past I have seen Noel use the skills which I have admired in him as a musician, and as a warm person - we have met a few times over the past 50 plus years, change dramatically.
I loved Peter, Paul and Mary's life work - using their skills both instrumentally and vocally, they communicated much as social commentary.
But now I see what used to be a love based life descend into hate, and that is not the God I grew to know over my nearly 80 years.

Just as Music Speaks Louder Than Words (😁), sometimes a subject presented with humour ‘goes down easier’, maybe posing an argument in a format not as abrasive to one’s irritability level as a serious op ed.
Archie Bunker’s ludicrous arguments for bigotry are a good example… they were humorous even to many bigots. The insanity of their outlook, having been exposed through humour, might have been easier to recognize in themselves and consider changing.

As I said, it is all very sad
Ian
A great respectful nod to Newhart using our current world scene as fuel.

Your Bob Newhart imitation is spot on (take it from an old Bob Newhart fan from the days black and white phone monologues).
May I post it on Facebook (with the introduction and appropriate credits)?
Love it! Listened to the In Concert album a lot as a kid in the 60s and remember the "Paultalk" fondly. Great album!
Brilliant! Thanks, Noel... It seems the only thing that gets the FElon's attention is the plummeting stock numbers of his companies.
