You ask which is my favorite Substack. You've already identified it: Heather Cox Richardson's "Letters From an American." And for all the reasons you gave, but I will add a couple: she is eminently readable, and as someone else has pointed out elsewhere, she lists her sources.
I faithfully read “A Gathering of Spirits” by poet, singer, songwriter Carrie Newcomer. She is a Quaker with Midwestern roots who has been called a “prairie mystic” by the Boston Globe. I was raised in the Midwest but moved to the Southeast when I married, so her words speak of home for me. Her music and writing helps me balance “news of the world” with “news of the heart.”
These are my top three, but I read many more as Substack has become journalism I can trust even as it presents a broad spectrum of perceptions of our time.
My husband, who is a chess player, purchased a chessboard several years ago that was apparently patented by Noel Paul Stookey. We have a copy of the patent. And would enjoy any additional information about it. Thank you!!
hi susan! wow...i thought i had the only remaining board. indeed, i wondered if it might make the strategies more 'lifelike' to create a dimensional valley in which the taking and exchange of pieces would take place. the patent ran out decades ago, but i still have the first one my dad built from my plans. how's about posting a picture of yours here and we'll compare notes?
aha! found you at last - buried as you were in an older substack! don't know if this message will get to you but maybe you could share the pictures with me directly via email npstookey.neworldmultimedia@gmail.com?

Words of appreciation for these weekly updates - and the inspiration they contain. Looking forward to the book.

Big fan of Heather Cox Richardson !
Why is it that, even though I know full well that this Substack is about Noel Paul Stookey, when I read "NPS" I think "National Park Service"?
And am I the only one that happens to?
It happens to me too.

Sorry obviously having technical difficulties ha. If there’s a better way to include pictures or send pictures please let me know. Thanks!
Probably the main technical difficulties I cannot download the app because we have old phones.
