Came here late through Diana Butler Bass, but wanted to share a thought from Eugene Peterson from Matthew 7 in The Message.

In verse 24 the idea of building a life out of Christ’s words is based on a Greek word which in other translations is rendered “do.”

This is a very active word which we get the English word poet. A poet is a person who takes words and does something with them, makes something personal and original out of them. Jesus says “Be poets. Make something of these words I’ve spoken to you. Make a life, epic and poetic. And make it beautiful. Make it a work of art.” That’s something we can all do. One well-chosen word at a time.

Thank you for this post! Fabulous signs! I loved all that I saw of the Democratic National Convention and experienced some of the rain of the spirit running from my eyes. I admire the Republicans who spoke at the convention because they recognized the importance of national principles over party affiliations. And the Harris-Walz team is positively Main Street.

Our neighborhood doesn’t allow yard signs. So we’ve put up this sign from David LaMotte in our window: “You are our neighbors. No matter who you vote for, your skin color, your faith, or who you love, we will try to be here for you. That’s what community means. Let’s be neighbors.”

For us, it’s a sign of hope (along with a Harris Walz bumper sticker on a car, the first bumper sticker we’ve put on since our children were recognized as “Terrific Kids” 25 years ago.)

I included Put a Woman in Charge as part of this story,as well. Thinking you might enjoy the other three songs too, from Carrie Newcomer, Eliza Gilkyson, and the Scottish band Breabach https://kerrydexter.substack.com/p/reflecting-on-the-political-season

Sorry for the tardy reply, but I was so happy to see Noel's activism on display yet again. It is only another in a long line of acting on one's beliefs', synonymous with this wonderful friend. I must admit, I fear for our country when so many, seemingly ordinary people can be taken in by this criminal, huckster, flim- flam snake oil salesman. It is a shame that our political system has sunk to such a state. I reply to his ridiculous signage with; America is and always has been great, it has been tarnished by Donald Trump, again and again!

..... there is wisdom in "do something" ! it does have to be big,but similiar to skipping a stone, a ripple is made and that water involves more water that it touched and so on. pretend you are wearing a pin that says "Do Something" . you have chosen to speak out just by wearing that pin and the people who now ask you it. Well done......

Praise God! Love will always conquer hate! Thought you and Noel would like this sermon against Christian nationalism by this inspiring and very intelligent young seminary school student named James Talarico. He is also a local government official in his state.
