Trust—based on intention to be truthful (we don’t always know exactly what the truth is!)

Presence—showing up as best one can (again, sometimes it’s just not possible)

Forgiving—based in love, compassion, respect

Most important: forgiving—grudges kill relationships

Note, I saw you (PPM) at SIU-Carbondale probably 1964. 🥰

Don’t hold back, Noel. We need all of the sane opinions we can get.

I never saw a division between the music and the spirituality or social activism. It was all part of a larger tapestry. Speaking of nonduality ..... the three elements of a relationship I aim for: 1) I try to see how I am part of the other and how the other is a part of me; 2) if I can get there (not easy), I try to see how any differences we have might be strengths to build on rather than things "to tolerate" (even harder); and 3) if I have been successful with 1 and 2, I try to see how the relationship can evolve without trying to dictate or foresee a specific outcome (a little easier). Sometimes I succeed, and sometimes I fall flat on my face.

KINGDOM POLITICS & CITIZENSHIP (A Biblical POV)

(The Politics)

The government shall be upon His shoulders… (Isa.9:6b)

Will you at this time restore Your kingdom… (Acts 1:6b)

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world…(Jn.18:36a)

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…(Mt.6:33)

(The Citizenship)

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ…(Phil.3:20)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and [gave us the ministry of reconciliation]; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, [we are ambassadors for Christ], God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Cor.5:17-21)

But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. (1 Peter 2:9&10 / The Message Bible)

oh wayne...i appreciate your intentions, but excerpting directly from the bible just comes off as abrupt and inconsiderate in this context. knowing you as i do, i am surprised.

Response appreciated. The process of Mt.6:33 continues, from where we are to where we're not yet. (Ps.84:5-7). "Watch where you step, and watch what you eat / Sleep with a light, and you've got it beat." (R. Manuel & R. Robertson)

As a 15-year old I saw you the night before the first moratorium against the war. You were leaving for DC right after the concert so your politics were there for me right from the start! Keep it coming. Keep it coming!

You are not getting too political for me. I love it because it reinforces my beliefs and everything I have heard from you and PP&M since I was much younger. I hope you will name your book, “There Is Love” because reading those words the song goes through my mind and I love that. The things that are most important to me in a relationship are love, communication, and respect. I'll add laughter, social justice, and ethics. They all go together so ranking them is too hard for me.

When one is writing from the heart regarding what I call “The Wisdom of Ages” it is always good and right.

P.S. With you re examine the songs in your life and mind,it's opened up a large door of sorts! There have been songs that I felt confident of what you were talking about only to find out,50 years later that I was totally off ! very sly wording !

in a relationship ,I think 3 of the things that are important to me are : Each person's is holding one anothers heart very gently and is protecting of it. Respecting one another to speak truthfully ,gleaning from it and giving back in turn. expressing a genuine desire to grow along side one another..... to one anothers weakness' and strengths in mind. that all sounds like some shaky outline for a college paper but it was they were the only words that came into my head !

I have not always shared your politics but I have always loved your music. Where do I begin? “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine,” “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” “Day is Done,” and, of course “Wedding Song,” which was sung at our wedding in 1973.

I have been playing/singing “Wasn’t that a time?” a bunch recently!
